Saturday's Kentucky Derby will be interesting to watch for people in the Capital Region. Not only is it the biggest horserace of the season, but there are a couple of local ties to the "Run For The Roses". One is a horse and the other is a trainer.
As you get deeper into August, the weekends get bigger at Saratoga Race Course. This weekend is no exception. Friday looks to be a terrific day at the Spa highlighted by the 8th running of the Tale of The Cat handicap. Saturday will feature two big stakes races, the 116th running of the Saratoga Special and the main event on Saturday, the Fourstardave Handicap. Chad Brown's Raging Bull will be the horse to beat in that one and Sunday is the first giveaway of the year featuring the Saratoga Cooler Bag. Giveaways are limited, so come early.
It's the Running of the Roses. The most coveted horse race in America and Mechanicville native, Chad Brown has a horse in the race. He is one of the most successful horse trainers in the game and happens to be from my hometown. It's a given that we will all be rooting for him on Saturday in the Kentucky Derby.
One of thoroughbred racing's top trainers and Mechanicville native Chad Brown has been scratched by the US Department of Labor. The local horse trainer, considered by many to be the finest in the sport, has been ordered to pay 1.6 million dollars in back wages and fines after it was learned that he stiffed employees of their earned wages.
There is a lot of pride when your hometown is showcased on a big stage. Being from Mechanicville, we are always proud when our own make it big. There is no one one bigger right now, that is from Mechanicville, than Chad Brown.
