Attention Saratoga County Restaurant Employees! Weird Scam Circulating
By now, you would think that scammers tried everything to get your personal information or money. It never ceases to amaze me the lengths they go through to try and obtain this stuff. Now there is a bizarre scam circulating and targeting the restaurant industry.
How Does The Scam Work?
The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office is warning of a scam that is aiming to cash in on the employees at restaurants in the area. The Sheriff's Office says that a male caller claims to be from the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office and is contacting the restaurant saying that they are investigating counterfeit money.
There is More to The Call
When the scammer contacts the restaurant and the employee answers, they appear to know some personal information of some of the employees at the restaurant. One reported case stated that the scammer had the full name, date of birth, and social security number of one of the workers.
There's More to The Scam. This Part is a Bit Strange
The caller or scammer then tells the restaurant employee to empty the cash drawer and then deposit it at a local pharmacy. After they do this, they are to delete all communications and records they had.
This is a SCAM!
The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office can't emphasize enough that they would never contact anyone let alone restaurant employees and ask to make a monetary deposit. Nor would they ever ask for personal information over the phone.
If you think you have been the victim of a scam or have received a scam call, you are encouraged to call the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office at (518) 885-6761.
