America Is Number One – In Wine Consumption

We're #1! We're #1! In drinking.

Well, it was just refreshing to see the US on top of a list for a change. When it comes to monetary value, employment, and the economy in general we don't top any lists.

We love drinking wine though. The United States has clobbered the former European countries like Spain, France and Italy that used to own the wine drinking crown. We didn't just win, we blew the rest of the world away.

Americans are consuming an average of 13.1 liters of wine per person. WOW! As a nation in 2011 we bought and guzzled 3.7 billion bottles of wine. Beer consumption is down though. Come on America, we need to be #1 there too. Well, the Super Bowl is coming so I'm sure we'll climb back up the beer chart quickly. Here's the whole story.
