New York Attorney General Blocks Warner Brothers/Paramount Merger
The film industry is in a weird place. The theatrical experience looked like it was dying, and streaming seemed to be the way forward. No one's sure of what the landscape will look like in ten years, not even the studios.
That's caused a huge shakeup in the industry, as major studios are being sold off or straight up shut down. One of the biggest examples of this was stopped by New York...\

Warner Brothers/Paramount Merger
In 2025, Warner Brothers was on the downslide. CEO David Zaslav had no idea what to do with the studio, and so, decided to sell to the highest bidder. Initially, Netflix was meant to take control of the media giant, but they weren't the only one to make a tantalizing offer.

On December 8th, 2025, Paramount submitted an all-cash offer for the company, and on February 27th, 2026, Warner Brothers announced they would be merging with Paramount in a $110 billion merger that would effectively create a monopoly in the film industry.
New York Blocks the Deal
On July 13th, New York State Attorney General Letitia James, along with 11 other attorney generals sued Paramount and Warner Brothers to block the proposed merger.
Just one week later, on July 20th, the courts approved a temporary restraining order that blocks the merger from happening for the time being. Now we wait for them to rule for a preliminary injunction to further halt the merger, which would effectively end the deal as we know it.
Whatever happens, the state of the industry is still up in the air, but this is a promising step forward.
