Amazon Opening Delivery Station in Capital Region
Amazon has been in the news lately for opening facilities and stores in the Capital Region. The latest is a delivery station that will hire more employees and make sure heavy items get delivered. According to Albany Business Review, it looks like Amazon will be utilizing another warehouse in the Capital Region. This time it will be a delivery station in Colonie that will handle the distribution of heavy and bulky items called the "last mile" delivery station. This is part of the Amazon logistics network they call AMXL.
Amazon says that this distribution center will handle large items such as couches and televisions. This location will help serve the customers in Albany County better. It will be located in the Karner Road Light Industrial Park in a warehouse. The warehouse is nearly sixteen thousand square feet. The plan is to open this month and there will be fifty new employees hired as associates and delivery drivers.
There is a need for these last-mile distribution warehouses because of Amazon's huge delivery network. They are used as a liaison between the huge distribution centers like the one that is opening in Schodack to their customers. Amazon prides itself on using its own network rather than other carriers.
The new distribution center in Schodack is looking to hire over one thousand employees in their one million square foot center. They are looking to open it in the fall.
