Summer School Means Summer Tickets: Albany Cameras Remain Active
Active School Speed Zone Cameras This Summer
School is winding down across the Capital Region, but that doesn't mean every school speed zone camera in Albany is taking the summer off.
The Albany Police Department announced that several school speed zone cameras will remain active throughout the summer to coincide with summer school programs and other educational activities.
While many drivers assume school zone enforcement ends once the regular school year wraps up, that's not the case at a handful of locations across the city.

Mixed Reactions
The announcement is likely to generate mixed reactions. Some Albany drivers have called the school speed camera system confusing, particularly when school is not in regular session. Others argue that with Albany's citywide 25 mph speed limit now well established, drivers should already be accustomed to slower speeds throughout the city.
The program has also generated significant revenue. Earlier this year, city officials reported that Albany's school speed cameras had generated approximately $10 million since launching nearly two years ago.
If you're caught speeding in a camera zone, the fine remains $50.
