Ainsley:

A heartfelt post on Craigslist caught the eye of an AnimaLovers volunteer: a filthy, emaciated cat had appeared in the yard of an elderly gentleman; literally dragging herself to what she hoped would be her refuge. Dehydrated and unable to walk, she wouldn't last much longer. Luckily, Ainsley chose her refuge well.

The gentleman and his home aide, horrified by Ainsley's condition and afraid she wouldn't survive, carefully picked her up and brought her to a vet. An exam revealed the cause of her inability to walk: her back was broken. Based on the break's nature and location, the vet concluded someone had hit her - repeatedly - with a baseball bat. Ainsley's good Samaritans agreed to pay for her vet care, even though they knew it would be expensive.

Their Craigslist post didn't ask for donations. It asked for help finding Ainsley a home. Despite an uncertain prognosis, and the possibility of permanent nerve damage restricting her mobility and capacity to care for herself, AnimaLovers agreed to take Ainsley as soon as she was released from the vet clinic, and to find her a family of her own whenever she was ready.

After two weeks in the hospital, Ainsley went to a foster home,, where she was pampered as she healed, gained strength, and learned to trust people again. Amazingly, today she shows no lasting effects of her trauma, other than an understandable shyness around new people, the need for a little time to adjust to new situations, and a slight but discernible bump on her back. She's affectionate, loyal and talkative, with a deep affinity for windowsills and her foster dad; looking for a home where she'll never have to be afraid or run the risk of being abused again.
