Abandoned, Injured Ram Found Near Mohawk River

This situation has many people shaking their heads and asking how it could happen to this type of animal.  Did it simply escape a farm, or worse, intentionally abandoned?

According to the Colonie Police Department, officers responded on Wednesday to a report of an injured ram found on the ice near the New York Power Authority parking area at 176 Cohoes Crescent Road, overlooking the Mohawk River.

Injured Ram Needed Medical Attention

Police say rams are not native to this area, and investigators believe the animal was intentionally abandoned. The ram was injured and needed medical attention, and was transported to a local animal hospital for treatment.

Abandoning an animal, especially in freezing conditions and near dangerous terrain, puts that animal at serious risk. Authorities are now working to determine who left the ram there and how it ended up there.
