Ice fishing is a pastime enjoyed all over upstate New York. Many anglers this time of year head out on the frozen waters of Saratoga Lake, Lake George, Ballston Lake, The Great Sacandaga Lake and parts of the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers to round up a day's catch. In some rural areas, ice fishing is a critical part of keeping a food supply in the winter.

To remain protected from the bitter cold, it's not uncommon to see ice fishing shelters or shanties out on the lakes. You know what you also might see out there? Hookers.

According to Hudson, Ohio Mayor Craig Shubert, if his city allows ice fishing - well, the city might very well turn into Bourbon Street. As the topic is being discussed at a council meeting, the mayor and board members debate whether or not to permit ice fishing at one of the city parks. The mayor states his case:

Additionally, if you open this up to ice fishing, while on the surface it sounds good, then what happens next year? Does someone come back and say 'I want ice shanty-ing?'.. And if you then allow ice fishing with shanties, then that leads to another problem. Prostitution.

Yes, February is the time of year when the prostitutes stop cruising the streets and head out onto the lakes. Ya gotta love the reaction from the councilman next to the mayor. His facial expression pretty much sums up what anyone listening is thinking. Regardless, the city voted to allow ice fishing.

At the very least, this should serve as a warning: Wives beware. When your husband says he's headed out to Round Lake for some 'ice fishing', it just might be code for something else.
