It was a disciplinary tool as well as an important utensil for my mom to make her sauce. When I saw this video going around online, I thought that it would be a good experiment for my mom to do just to see what hasn't been washed out of her wooden spoons. My mom is a good sport. Growing up in an Italian household, the wooden spoon was used as a fear tactic. Many times my mom would carry it in her purse. All she would have to do is show us that she brought it for us to behave. There were occasions that she "tapped" us with it. But my favorite things she used the wooden spoon for was cooking. My mom makes the best sauce and the key to keeping it from sticking is that trusty wooden spoon.
