As June comes to a close, Albany, and the rest of America, is gearing up for the Fourth of July. This isn't just any Fourth of July, however, it's the country's 250th Birthday as well.

USS Marinette

It's not just the nation of America celebrating its 250th birthday, it's also our Armed Forces. The navy will be celebrating Navy250 with a commemoration event at the Port of Albany-Rensselaer, hosting the US Navy Littoral Combat Ship USS Marinette (LCS-25).

This is an active duty naval vessel, meant to take part in July Fourth activities in the area. this will be the first time since 1993 that an active duty naval vessel has visited the port, with the last time showcasing the Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate USS Capodanno (FF-1093).

Visits

The vessel isn't just there to look pretty, it's also meant for public tours! The tours are 25 minutes long, and are available on a first come first serve basis, with registration required in advance.

Tours will take place over the weekend of the fourth, at the following times:

• July 4: 10 am - 2:30 pm
• July 5: 9 am - 4:30 pm
• July 6: 9 am - 4:30 pm
• July 7: 9 am - 11:30 am

At the moment, all tours have been sold out, but a waitlist is available in case someone drops their spot. You can request a spot on the waitlist HERE.
