Upstate New York Shelter Found A Covered Tub Of Kittens
Rescue Shelter Finds Tub Full of Kittens
A rescue shelter in Upstate New York is thankful that the kittens weren't left on the side of the road, but they're still trying to identify the person who left at least a dozen innocent furballs alone in a cold parking lot.
The Dutchess County SPCA, a no-kill shelter about an hour south of Albany, says they don't know who left at litter of furballs in their parking lot earlier this week. Still, they're thankful that the animals didn't die before a staff member noticed they were there.
"Together, we can reduce the number of unwanted litters and ensure no animal has to endure a frightening and unsafe experience like this. Thank you for helping us create a community of care and compassion for all animals." Dutchess County SPCA Facebook
In a Facebook post, workers at the shelter wrote that they "found a covered tub of kittens that someone had dumped in our parking lot. Fortunately, an alert staff member noticed the covered tub and brought the kittens inside before they froze."
The SPCA went on to say that they were reviewing camera footage to see if they could identify the person who left them.
Grateful the Animals Didn't Die
They were left out in the cold without much air, and the kittens were lucky to be alive when they were discovered.
"Dumping defenseless animals is not only inhumane but unnecessary. We are grateful the person at least left them on our grounds instead of by the side of the road or in a field," they wrote. They added that they "could just as easily have contacted us to surrender, and the kittens would not have had to go through the ordeal of being left in the cold in a box with barely any air."
The shelter said that instead of dumping unwanted pets, please call them at 845-452-7722 x403 so they will be safe and well cared for.
