Upstate Mansion Makes USA Today’s “Best Historic Holiday Home Tours” List
Have you ever wondered how New York’s elite celebrated Christmas back in the Gilded Age, when holiday décor meant real garland, candlelight, and rooms big enough for a dozen Christmas trees?
In that case, there’s a place about 80 minutes south of Albany where you can experience it firsthand.
The Staatsburgh State Historic Site in Staatsburg, NY, has been nominated by USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards as one of the nation’s Best Historic Holiday Home Tours.

Transforms into a Christmas Wonderland
This stunning mansion, once home to the wealthy Mills family, transforms into a 19th-century Christmas wonderland each year.
Today, the elegant mansion, restored to its turn-of-the-century appearance, is open for tours, and the house and grounds offer special events throughout the year.
Visitors can stroll the main floor of the Mills Mansion, decked out in period décor, glittering trees, and ornate holiday displays that capture what Christmas looked like for America’s Gilded Age upper class.
Guests can also stop by the gift shop for some old-fashioned holiday shopping before heading back up the Hudson.
Vote Once a Day Through December 1st
You can help put another Upstate New York landmark on the national map by casting your vote for Staatsburgh once per day through Monday, December 1st, at noon. The top 10 winners will be announced on Wednesday, December 10th.
