TV Legend Makes Upstate New York ‘Trek’ To Meet Admiring Fans
Television's William Shatner may be well into his 90s. Still, the Star Trek legend never misses an opportunity to hang with passionate fans in Upstate New York, and over the weekend, he did it again.
At 93, Shatner, who famously played Captain James T. Kirk on the Star Trek television and movie series, visited with passionate fans in Ft. Ticonderoga. Shatner was on the set of "Star Trek: Original Series Set Tour," signing autographs, doing photo-ops, dinners, and other events that left Trekkies tickled.
Over the years, Ticonderoga has become a Star Trek paradise for legions of "Trekkies" throughout the Capital Region and beyond for decades.
According to the Times Union, it started over 25 years ago when James Cawley and his grandfather decided to rebuild parts of the historic Star Trek set for people to enjoy.
This year, Shatner, at the ripe old age of 93, made the trek to Upstate New York to hang out with passionate fans.
According to comments left on the Facebook page of the Star Trek Original Series Set Tour, nothing was off-limits, and at 93, he had as much spirit and passion as someone much younger.
"I kept telling myself he's 93 years old, (soon to be) 94 in a few months. He has more energy and spark than most 60-70-year-olds I have met," wrote Nicholas Corwin on the tour's Facebook page.
"He talks about anything and everything. He is highly intelligent...and if you want to talk about something, all you have to do is ask him, " wrote Anthony Falvo, one of the many fans in attendance.
"Bill was engaging and (had) a fantastic sense of humor. Just happened to be sitting right behind him," wrote Star Trek fan Jim Lyons.
