I love to travel with my dog during the summer. Sometimes it is difficult if you are going on long road trips. Now the New York State Thruway has a new way to make sure your pet is safe and cool while you travel. When you are traveling with your dog during the summer and you need to stop at a rest area, it's hard to just run in and not leave them in the hot car. The New York state Thruway has added cooling dog houses at some rest areas to help. According to USA Today, there are now ten locations at Thruway rest stops that offer a climate-controlled, smartphone paired temporary kennel for your pet.

These DogSpot crates feature both air conditioning and heaters and there is UV light to kill any bacteria.

The app that is uploaded to your smartphone enables you to lock the crate and keep track of your pet while you are away. You can only unlock your pet's crate with the app when you are ready to get back on the road.

The DogSpot costs thirty cents per minute with the average stay of fifteen minutes. There is a maximum of ninety minutes per crate.

There are currently ten Thruway locations that have the DogSpot crates.

  • Oneida
  • Chittenango
  • Junius Ponds

  • New Baltimore
  • Ulster
  • Plattekill
