Albany’s college of Nanoscale Science and Engineering on SUNY’s campus is just one of the many universities and research facilities targeted by a Mexican terrorist group. The group is influenced the Unabomber in that it send out package bombs.  The group is specifically targeting nanotechnology researchers around the world.  No attacks here in the U.S. have happened, but security has been increased in mailrooms at certain universities.

The group calls itself "Individuals Tending to Savagery" and claims Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski as an inspiration.  A package sent to the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education just outside Mexico City actually exploded.  The group took responsibility for that attack as well as linking itself to attacks iin France, Spain and Chile.

UAlbany's Nanocollege did not comment on the story about the terrorist group issued in the Times Union, however; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute issued a statement about their nanotechnology program stating they know about the threat and have campus officials ................................................................................ working on protecting their students.
