Teens Looking For Summer Jobs? New York State Can Help
Are your kids looking for a summer job? There is assistance available from New York State. Here are the details.
Governor Hochul has announced $56.5 million in funding for a summer employment program designed to support young people from low-income families. Every county in New York State will receive support, with nearly $2.2 million directed to the Capital Region.
The program will give about 21,000 teens and young adults the chance to work, build new skills, and receive hands-on training. Jobs will be available in parks, summer camps, child care centers, cultural organizations, schools, and other community spaces.
The funding comes from the State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance as part of New York’s 2026 budget. It is designed to help youth between the ages of 14 and 20 whose families make less than twice the federal poverty level.
This effort is more than just summer work. It is about creating a pathway for young people to gain experience and confidence that can shape their future. Whether they are planting gardens in public parks or helping at local museums, participants will be earning money while learning how to succeed in a work environment.
Assemblymember Al Stirpe sees the program as a win for everyone. He says it helps teens prepare for future careers and supports local businesses and neighborhoods at the same time. The investment also shows a commitment to removing financial barriers so all young people have the chance to grow and succeed.
The program is expected to begin this summer across all 57 counties.
