June brings another spectacular moon. Get ready for a show in the sky. You will be able to view it from anywhere in Upstate New York.

June’s full moon, known as the Strawberry Moon, will be at its peak early on Tuesday, June 10th, at 3:44 a.m., but the best time to catch it in Upstate New York is just after sunset on Monday, June 9th.

Despite the name, it won’t be pink or red. The “Strawberry Moon” got its name from Native American tribes because it lined up with strawberry picking season. But this year’s moon is still special because it’ll rise low in the sky, which can make it appear bigger and more golden, especially near the horizon.

According to USA Today, this particular full moon lines up with a rare lunar event called a major lunar standstill, which only happens about every eighteen years. That means the moon will be one of the lowest in the sky we've seen in a long time.

If you're in Upstate New York, find a clear view of the southeastern horizon. The best would be on a hilltop or in an open field.  Look up shortly after sunset on June 9th. You might even spot the bright red star Antares nearby.

No special equipment is necessary for a look at this spectacular moon. All you need are your eyes, but binoculars or a camera with a zoom lens can make the view even better.
