It's time for Capital Region residents to sign for help with your heating bill this winter. There is a significant amount of assistance available for New Yorkers under the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). This winter in the Capital Region is supposed to be a very cold and snowy one. HEAP is designed to make sure that no family has to try and survive a winter without heat just because they can't afford it.

There is $325 million available across New York state for those who qualify. Eligibility and benefits are based on income, size of household, primary heating source and members in the household under the age of 6, older the age of 60 or permanently disabled.

If you are eligible, you may receive one regular HEAP benefit per program year and could also be eligible for emergency HEAP benefits if you are in danger of running out of fuel or having your utility service shut off.
