Schalmont Student Overdose Investigated By State Police
A series of social media posts over the weekend from the Superintendent of Schalmont Central Schools has many in the community offering prayers and support while trying to come to grips with the reality and sadness of unexpected loss.
The Schalmont Central School Facebook page has been flooded with condolences as members of the community learn of the unexpected loss of one of their own.
According to Superintendent Carol Pallas, the students name is being withheld until State Police 'finish their investigation' but it is believed to be a high school student attending the Capital Region BOCES Auto program and in the Pathways program. Sadly, according to Pallas, the cause of death is from an overdose.
In the heartfelt post Pallas added:
"Dear Parents, It is with profound sadness that I write this letter to let you know that one of our high school students unexpectedly passed away over the weekend of 2/21. Our condolences and thoughts go out to the family and friends of our student. During this time, as the school community processes the tragic news and copes with grief, we will offer counseling and bereavement support services to all of our students and staff."
