Filming in Troy Will Bring Street Closures and Movie Magic
Troy, NY, is the site for some movie magic this week and next. But with the magic comes some inconvenience. There are several road closures to be aware of.
If you're driving through Troy this week and part of next week, keep in mind that several streets will be temporarily closed for a film shoot. Between July 15th and July 23rd, crews will be in town filming a historical drama set in 1939 Berlin.
The film follows the story of a rabbi living in Nazi-occupied Germany. Because of the period, you may see actors in Nazi military uniforms. City officials are asking the public not to be alarmed. The Troy Police Department, fire officials, local businesses, and nearby residents have all been notified in advance.
There’s also a special effects advisory for Thursday, July 18. You may notice fake smoke coming from the area around St. Mary’s Church, but there’s no actual fire and no cause for concern. The Troy Fire Department will be on site to make sure everything runs safely.
Here’s a look at some of the scheduled closures:
Monday, July 15th (7 p.m. to midnight): Portions of 2nd Street and Washington Place
Tuesday, July 16th (8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.): Sections of 2nd Street from Congress to State
Wednesday, July 17th through early Friday, July 19th: Various closures including 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and Ferry Streets at different times
Tuesday, July 23rd (7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.): Final filming near 2nd Street and Washington Place
Detours will be posted, so plan and give yourself extra time if you’re heading downtown.
