New York State Unveils New Zero-Emission Fleet, Pushing For 100% Electric By 2035
I remember growing up and thinking "when I'm older we'll all have electric cars!" Obviously, everyone since the invention of the automobile has had that same thought, and we're no closer to that dream today than in 1920.
New York may have made a massive step forward towards that goal this month...

Electric Vehicle Fleet EVent
On May 7th, 2026, New York State held the fourth annual Electric Vehicle Fleet EVent at Empire State Plaza in Albany. This event was meant to showcase the state's dedication to an all-electric fleet across the state with Vehicle, Equipment, and Vendor Displays.
At the event, they unveiled their new fleet of Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEV's), which now take up over 10% of the state's light-duty, non-emergency fleet. Currently, there are 1,850 ZEVs with over 1,300 chargers across New York State. But why all this fuss on Electric Vehicles for the state?
Zero Emission State
The push for Zero-Emission Vehicles is mainly due to the state's promise to make transportation completely carbon neutral. The current plan is to transform the light-duty, non-emergency fleet 100% electric by 2035. Once that's completed, the state will turn to replacing their medium-and-heavy-duty vehicles with ZEV's by 2040.
Sure, this is environmentally conscious, and incredibly important for the future of our planet, but what you're interested in is how this affects your wallet. Here's the good news, it's lowering your taxes in the long term. No longer having to pay for fuel for these vehicles significantly lightens the load on taxpayers, and will ensure a healthier, cheaper future for New Yorkers.
