New Hunting Regulations Protects From Disease

There are new regulations for hunters in New York state to cut down on the possibility of spreading a chronic disease. Here's what you need to know. According to News 10 ABC, it is now illegal to bring whole carcasses of deer, caribou, moose, and elk over the New York state border from other states. The New York state Departement of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is hoping this will stop the spread of chronic wasting disease.

This disease is fatal to the nervous system and is spread through the carcasses of the infected animals. There is no cure for this disease. The new regulations allow hunters to only bring certain parts of deer and other animals into New York. The parts are deboned meat, antlers without flesh, cleaned skull caps, hides, cleaned jaw, and animals that are finished taxidermy products.

Roadways along state borders will be monitored by state DEC officers. They will confiscate and destroy all that are illegally brought into the state.
