Look! Albany’s Lincoln Park Pool Will Feature Splash Pad, Waterslide & More [PICS]
Back in July, the City of Albany asked residents to choose two designs for the new Lincoln Park Pool. The results are in and this ten-plus million dollar project will be built.
What Were The Two Concepts Albany Residents Had to Choose From?
Concept A
This plan proposed three separate water features. It included an eighteen thousand square-foot, zero-entry pool, a splash pad with a water slide, and a ten-lane half-size Olympic lap pool.
Concept B
This plan had a twenty-thousand square foot half-moon-shaped zero-entry pool that would connect to a full-size ten-lane lap pool.
Both plans contained a ten thousand-square-foot playground. They had new lifeguard stations, bathroom facilities, space for concessions, and amphitheater-style seating.
Concept A Was The Winning Design!
How Was This Project Funded?
There was a Lincoln Park Pool Capital Campaign Committee organized by Business for Good Co-founder Ed Mitzen. At the unveiling of the winning plan last week, he announced that a one million dollar donation was made for the construction of the project. They plan to raise ten million dollars.
The hope is to begin the destruction of the existing pool in 2023 and have the new one built by 2024.
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan praised the efforts of Business for Good saying,
Our residents deserve a new facility that can serve our City for another 90 years, and we are one significant step closer to that goal thanks to the generosity and partnership of Ed, Lisa Mitzen, Jahkeen Hoke, and the entire team at Business for Good.
