Latham Trooper Buys Gas for Stranded Elderly Woman

Imagine a parent or grandparent, left stranded alone on the side of the road after running out of gas.  Not only does that suck, but it can be a little scary.   In most cases though, it's not the end of the world.  Simply make a call to a friend or family member and someone will usually come help out.   A situation similar to that did happen recently, but the biggest difference was that the elderly lady without gas was also without a cell phone on Route 9 in Latham.

It was cold and she was walking on the side of the road, but thankfully she wasn't entirely alone.  A State Trooper was there to make sure the elderly lady was not only returned safely to her vehicle, but he offered up that "full-service" Trooper treatment.  He not only payed for, but filled up her car with gas.

According to the NYSP Facebook page:  "Troopers from SP Latham had stopped to check on a disabled vehicle on Route 9 when they found the elderly driver walking down the roadway. She was out of gas and didn’t have any way to call for help. Troopers drove the woman to a local gas station,

bought her some gas,

and got her back on the road."

It's great to be able to share stories like this and they happen all the time, but many go unreported.  Any first responder will tell you it's just part of the job.  This is exactly what you'd expect from such a professional and respected agency such as the New York State Police.
