Guptill’s Roller Skating Arena has earned a spot on the New York Historic Business Preservation Registry, and the family behind it could not be prouder.

“It’s such a tremendous sense of accomplishment,” Charles Guptill told CBS 6, one of the fourth-generation co-owners. “There’s been a lot of hard work and effort to get here.”

The registry recognizes businesses that have been family-owned and operated for at least 50 years, a milestone Guptill’s has far exceeded. The roller skating rink has been a community staple since 1950, and ask anyone in the Capital Region and chances are they have skated there.

The arena has stayed true to its nostalgic 1950s vibe, which is a big part of what keeps people coming back. “It adds to the experience,” Guptill explained. “People come in and reminisce about their memories here. They tell their kids and grandkids about skating here, and now those grandkids are coming to make their own memories. It’s amazing to see.”

Guptill’s is not just about skating either. It holds the Guinness World Record for the largest indoor roller skating rink.

For over 70 years, Guptill’s has been more than just a roller skating rink, it is a piece of living history, cherished by generations of families.

I've lived here my entire life, and I'm not sure I realized how beautiful the Empire State is. There's no shortage of stunning landscapes and breathtaking views throughout the great State of New York, especially this time of year!

It doesn't matter where you live, or where you travel, New York residents are never far from a gorgeous beach, a picturesque state park, or an awe-inspiring mountain.

In 2018, a photographer named Demetri Andritsakis made a 3-and-a-half-minute drone video called "Upstate New York By Air" that highlighted many of New York's breathtaking views.

Andritsakis submitted it to the 2018 New York State Fair Drone Film Festival, and deservedly so, he received a Gold Medal honor for his aerial work throughout upstate New York.
