Historic Basketball Team Returning To Albany
The Albany Patroons are coming back to Albany and they're hoping the 3rd time is a charm. An announcement is planned for today that will bring the historic franchise back to Albany's Washington Armory. I'm excited, as I'm literally a 60 second walk doorstep to their home court, but the question is always the same with the Patroons: Will anyone attend these games?
I was just a teenager, but I remember watching the likes of Phil Jackson, Mario Elie, Vince Askew, Bill Musselman, and Michael Ray Richardson don the green and yellow for the 2 time CBA champs Albany Patroons. Hard to imagine, but there were cold winter nights inside the Armory where it was literally standing room only with crowds well into the thousands and the basketball was phenomenal. I hope they do well; as I'm pumped to be able to take 2 year old Brody to his first basketball game this Winter.
According to the Times Union Dave Magley, president of the North American Premier Basketball League, will be at the Washington Avenue Armory with Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan today to announce the return of professional basketball to the Capital Region.
