There truly is no other sport like boxing. You could make the argument that it's the earliest sport, since humans have been fist fighting since before we gained sentience.

Hasim Rahman

The boxer in question is Hasim Rahman, a two-time Heavyweight world Champion. He earned his first title in 2001 and his second in 2005. He officially retired from professional boxing in 2014 with a final record of 50-9-2, recording 41 knockouts.

Despite being in retirement for 12 years, Rahman wants a new challenge. He's 53 years old, and wants to become the oldest boxer in history to win a heavyweight title. The current record is held by George Foreman, who was 45 at the time of his last title in 1994.

The Comeback Match

You can't just win the heavyweight right out of the gate, you have to work your way to it, and Rahman's comeback tour starts in Upstate New York.

On July 14th, Rahman will enter a fight at ESL Ballpark in Rochester, New York against an unnamed opponent. Joseph Fantuzzo, the promoter, has described this as a charity match, with proceeds benefiting The Boys & Girls Club of Rochester, The Lou Gramm Foundation and Food Link of Rochester for the 250th Celebration of the United States of America.

Rahman fought in Rochester five times in his professional career. He considers the city a second home to him.
