February Weather Outlook For Upstate New York: More Winter Or Early Spring?

While we await Punxsutawney Phil's and his Ground Hog's Day forecast, what are meteorologists predicting for February?

While the word awaits Phil's call for 6 more weeks of winter or an early Spring this Friday, the Weather Channel has revealed its temperature outlook for the month ahead.

January has finally brought some snow to the Capital Region and Upstate New York, but it has not been a perfect winter storm, so to speak. With every blast of snow, it has felt like we have had a subsequent warm-up and stretch of rain to wash it all away.

So far this winter National Weather Service says we have gotten 21.3 inches of snow. On average, we would normally see 30 inches now. According to the National Weather Service, our average snowfall at this point of the season is about 30 inches.

Will that pattern continue in February or will we finally see a consistent stretch of consistently cold winter weather?

Weather Channel February Temperature Outlook

So what will the home stretch of winter bring? It looks like an early spring could be on tap for February.

According to the Weather Channel, "...February could bring much warmer than average conditions across much of the central United States." For the Northeast and Upstate New York specifically, their weather outlook is calling for above-average temperatures for the region.

The chance is always there for big snow, but with milder temperatures lying ahead, the odds may be against it.
