Students across New York State have a chance to save money this month when applying to college. October is New York State College Application Month, and nearly 130 colleges and universities are waiving their application fees.

That includes all SUNY and CUNY schools, along with dozens of private colleges across the state. Since application fees often range from $50 to $90, the savings can make a real difference for students applying to multiple schools. The goal is to make the process more affordable and open doors for every student who wants to take that next step.

SUNY will waive up to five application fees per student from October 20 through November 3. CUNY will offer free applications for New York City high school students from October 27 to November 21, and for students outside the city from November 10 to November 21. Many private colleges are also participating throughout the month.

Students can find the full list of participating schools on the New York State Application Waiver webpage. The Higher Education Services Corporation and its partners are hosting more than 40 virtual and in-person events in October to help students and families complete their financial aid forms.

With FAFSA, the Tuition Assistance Program, and the STEM Incentive Program applications now open, it’s a great time to get a head start on the process. These efforts are designed to remove financial barriers and make sure every New York student has the opportunity to pursue higher education.
