Teen Missing: NYSP Asks for Public's Help
New York State Police are asking for the public’s help locating a missing 17-year-old from Rensselaer County who may be experiencing a mental health crisis.
According to State Police, troopers responded to a residence near Garner Road in Sand Lake at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Monday, September 15th, for a report of a missing/runaway teenager.
17-Year-Old Ashton Cushman

Police identified the teen as 17-year-old Ashton Cushman.
- Ashton is described as a white male with blonde hair, approximately 5-foot-7 and 120 pounds.
- He was last seen near Garner Road wearing a white T-shirt, black sweatpants, and black flip-flops.
- State Police believe Ashton may be traveling on foot and say he may be experiencing a mental health crisis.
- Authorities say it is unknown whether he is armed and are specifically warning members of the public not to approach him.

Do Not Approach Him...Call 911
Some people in the area have reported seeing or hearing helicopters overhead during the search. We have not independently verified whether that activity is connected to the search for Ashton.
If you see Ashton, do not approach him. Call 911 immediately.
