I've seen a lot of crazy stuff happen on stage at concerts. Beer chugging, stage dives, fantasy football drafts, you name it.

One Capital Region show might have just topped my list.

Chase Matthew at Frog Alley

On Wednesday, November 4th, WGNA hosted our "Country for a Cause" show starring Chase Matthew at Frog Alley Brewing in Schenectady. The night was a blast, and Chase's set was incredible, but it wasn't the music that stole the show that night.

A Moment to Remember

Now, we have to jump back in time a little. Specifically to the last WGNA Secret Star in October. At that event as guests poured in, I began chatting with one local couple. During that conversation, they'd mentioned that they were expecting a child, and would soon be finding out the gender.

They told me that they had already bought their tickets for the Chase show, and were hoping he'd be able to read the gender reveal on stage during his set. I wished them luck with it, and hoped I would run into them at Country for a Cause.

The Reveal

Well, the night came, and they were there. They immediately found me, and showed me the sealed envelope, which they'd gotten only a few hours before. We asked Chase's label representative, and he told us that he'd likely be more than happy to help out.

Come showtime, the couple passed the envelope up through the crowd, and straight to Chase's hands. He took it, opened it, and announced...

"It's a dinosaur!"

After that quick joke, he he said, "you have three girls? Well man, you're gonna love this. 'Cause now you've got four, brother!" The crowd erupted, and the happy couple embraced in the midst of the chaos.

Congratulations to the happy couple! We can't wait to see her at the next GNA show!

Cemetery Dating Back to Late 1700s Preserved in Capital Region Mall Parking Lot

Inside the Viaport Rotterdam Mall parking lot, there is a 1700s cemetery. This cemetery was preserved, and a compromise was made before the Rotterdam Square Mall was built in the 1980s. They built a brick wall near it and a gated fence around it. Check out the cemetery with headstones and the history of the Vedder family, located just outside the mall doors.
