After a healthy stretch of January rain, snow returned to the Capital Region and Upstate New York this weekend.

Winter has been pretty shifty this winter, going from rainy and mild to cold and snowy back to rain. Whenever we get snow, it seems it is quickly washed away by a mild spell with showers.

This weekend we shifted back to some snow, and some spots in the Capital Region and and surrounding areas got a good chunk of snow. This storm started slow as rain in a lot of spots, but eventually shifted to wet heavy snow blanketing the region.

From the snowfall totals below, it looks like Schoharie County, Western Albany County, and Greene County were the winners for the most snowfall this go-round.

Weather-wise, News Channel 13 says it looks like a lore quiet week ahead with dry cloudy weather through Thursday, with the potential snow-showers heading into the first weekend of February.

Another Upstate New York winter is upon us. And while it is popular for forecasters to predict a cold and snowy winter ahead, how much snow would it actually take to make it an all-time winter when it comes to big a big snowfall total for the season? In the average winter, the National Weather Service (NWS_ says we get 59.2 inches of snow in Albany. We will have to crush that number this winter for the season ahead to make this NWS top 10 list of our snowiest Albany winters on record.
