No one has to tell us that New York is a very expensive place to live but I had no idea just how expensive it is to live in the Capital Region compared to other regions in New York state.

Where Did The Capital Region Land in the Survey?

The Capital Region landed at number four out of all the 27 areas in New York state. The only other cities that were more expensive to live in were Kingston, Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown area, and of course New York City and outlining cities according to Doxo Insights.

How Did Doxo Insights Come up With Their Data?

The survey found that the average cost of Capital Region bills and utilities came out to be $1,961 per month. This is just around $700 a month less than the New York City area. These included National Grid, Spectrum, car payments, health insurance, rent/mortgage, cell phone, and other utilities.

Where did the Capital Region Fall In the United States?

The information gathered in this survey for the entire United States wasn't very encouraging. The Albany, Schenectady, Troy areas came in at 131 out of 914 cities and towns in the country.

How Did Other Cities Outside of the Capital Region Fair?

The cities outside of the Albany area like Amsterdam, Gloversville, and Glens Falls landed high on the list as well. Gloversville came in at #8, Glens Falls at #9, and Amsterdam at #10. They landed way ahead of Rochester (#12), Syracuse (#13), and Buffalo (#16).
