Beware of Scam Using PayPal, Venmo, and Apple Pay
Many are using digital wallets like Venmo, PayPal, and Apple Pay. There are scammers that are sending you money by accident to these accounts. Here's what to be aware of. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning of a new digital wallet scam that makes it look like someone you don't know has "accidentally" put money into your Venmo, PayPal, or Apple Pay account. The scammer then sends a message saying they mistakenly sent it to the wrong account and ask for the money back. It is usually several hundred dollars.
What they are really doing is connecting a stolen credit card to your digital wallet account and using it to transfer money. If you do send the hundreds of dollars back, they will then delete the stolen credit card from their account and add their own account. Then the money goes to them personally. The funds get removed from your account and you are out of the money.
Be very careful of most digital wallet apps because they may not reimburse you from the scammers.
