Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Capital Region
After a messy Monday evening commute to kick off the work week, get ready for more of the same on Tuesday (January 6th) with freezin rain and snow in the area.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Capital Region from 4 pm this afternoon (Tuesday, January 6th) through 4 am Wednesday (January 7th).
The NWS forecast is calling for light freezing rain, which will create slippery road conditions for the evening commute. A tenth of an inch of ice accumulation is expected before the precipitation turns to rain later Tuesday night.
In the Saratoga area and points north, NWS says snow is expected with 1 to 2 inches possible.
This continues an active stretch of winter weather in the Capital Region, where we have consistently seen some form of winter precipitation almost daily. If it is starting to wear thin for you, there is a little bit of relief in sight later this week in the form of milder temperatures.
When Will The Milder Weather Arrive?
Once we get through this latest stretch of wintry weather, the Capital Region can expect a brief January thaw. The News Channel 13 First Warning Forecast says we can expect temperatures in the low 40s on Wednesday and Thursday, and mid to upper 40s on Friday and Saturday. The chance of showers will remain on Friday and Saturday, with our next chance for snow showers arriving Sunday.
