If you were hoping for a break after those brutal winter utility bills… not so fast.

Starting in April, National Grid customers in Upstate New York will see another bump in their monthly costs. This time on the delivery side of the bill. That’s the portion that covers maintaining power lines, gas pipes, and the overall system, and it usually makes up more than half of what you pay.

How Much More Will We Be Paying?

For the average household, the increase will be about $14.50 more per month. That breaks down to roughly $6.44 more for electricity and $8.08 more for gas. It may not sound massive on its own, but it adds up, especially coming right after a winter where many people saw sky-high bills just trying to stay warm.

Why The Big Increase?

Here’s the frustrating part: even though supply costs (the part that changes with the market) have started to come down a bit, delivery charges are continuing to rise, and they’re not temporary. These increases are part of a multi-year plan, meaning this April hike is just one step in a series of scheduled increases.

By the time it’s all said and done in the next couple of years, the average household could be paying about $50 more per month compared to what they were paying in early 2025.

So while the weather may ease up, your utility bill might not anytime soon.
