Talented and Undiscovered? Idol to Audition New Yorkers this Week

American Idol, is still doing it after two decades

Thanks in part to the popularity of YouTube, Instagram, Tik Tok, Twitter X, and Facebook, there are plenty of ways to get "discovered" in 2023. The music and entertainment industry changes so quickly, in a strange way, auditioning on American Idol feels kind of "old school".

It's hard to believe that it's been 4 years since Clifton Park's Madison Vandenburgh blew the judges away with her rendition of Dan and Shay's "Tequila" during her Idol audition in 2019.

And nothing would be better than rooting for someone from right here in the Capital Region!

Now in its 22nd season (7th since the show rebooted in 2018), Idol continues to be a solid platform for aspiring and undiscovered talent, and this week they've got their sights set on singers from the Northeast, including New York.

How can New Yorkers audition on American Idol?

New York auditions begin Wednesday, Aug. 23, and registration is now open and according to the American Idol website, New Yorkers can audition in a variety of ways, including:

By posting a Social Media Audition Video to your preferred social media platform Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or Twitter

By uploading an audition video to the American Idol Online Audition portal
Virtually attending one of American Idol’s “Idol Across America” video chat, virtual auditions via Zoom (the “Virtual Auditions”)

To audition, you must be 15 years old or older, born on or between June 2, 1994 and Feb. 15, 2009. If you were born before or after this window, you are not eligible to participate in season 7 of American Idol.

According to the show, registration doesn’t guarantee the opportunity to audition

The New York State Fair's 2023 Country Concert Lineup

This year's Great New York State Fair runs from August 23 to September 4 at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.
