Stop DWI Halloween Initiative Enforced Throughout New York State
Halloween is filled with ghosts, goblins, tricks, and treats, but law enforcement is cracking down on drunk drivers to ensure everyone has a fun holiday.
This Halloween, local police agencies are joining forces for the statewide ‘Stop DWI Halloween High Visibility Engagement’ campaign. Halloween night might be all about costumes, candy, and spooky fun, but it’s also a night when the risk of impaired driving accidents can spike.
Saratoga County Sheriff Mike Zurlo emphasizes that this campaign aims to remind everyone of the dangers of driving under the influence, especially on a night as lively as Halloween.
Planning for a safe, sober ride is a simple step and it can prevent a night of fun from turning into a tragic memory. Halloween should be about making memories, not dealing with the consequences of drunk driving.
This campaign is part of a larger statewide initiative from Stop-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, which also targets holidays like Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Thanksgiving. These are times when impaired driving incidents tend to increase, and visibility efforts like these are intended to keep people safe.
To help plan, the Sheriff’s Office encourages everyone to download Stop-DWI NY’s “Have a Plan” mobile app, which makes finding a safe ride even easier. Let’s keep the scares to haunted houses, not the roads this Halloween. Stay safe, plan, and make sure your Halloween night is memorable for all the right reasons.
