Children Meet Horses And Jockeys At Saratoga’s Free STAR Program
The Saratoga Race Course is one of the most historic sports venues in the country and a tradition here in the Capital Region. When you bring the whole family, it's fun, but sometimes when you bring the kids, it can be tough. There is a program that helps them stay engaged and have a behind-the-scenes look.
Looking for a fun and free way to get the kids excited about the Saratoga Race Course? Check out NYRA's STAR Program. It stands for Students of Thoroughbred Racing.
This kids’ program is all about giving young fans a closer look at the action. It’s back for its second year and runs every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through August 31st. The goal? Spark curiosity about the sport and maybe even plant the seed for a future career in the racing world.
STAR members get a personalized membership card, lanyard, drawstring bag, and other keepsakes. Plus, kid-friendly updates about upcoming events and activities.

The real draw is the access. Kids can enjoy special tours, meet racing professionals, and get right up close to the horses in the paddock. They’ll even spot jockeys walking by, which is a tradition that makes Saratoga so unique.
And here’s something extra cool: STAR members get to take part in the Winner’s Circle ceremony after select races. That means stepping onto the track and celebrating alongside the winning jockey and horse. It’s the kind of once-in-a-lifetime moment that turns into a lifelong memory.
Whether your child is already into racing or just curious, this program is a great way to enjoy Saratoga from a new angle.
Registration is quick and free online. Just sign up and get ready for some unforgettable summer weekends at the track.
