It was my first and only choice when deciding where I wanted to go to college. Economically it makes the most sense, their educational programs along with extra curricular activities are above par and staying local was all important to me when starting my next chapter. And now, Hudson Valley Community College has added a program that completely warms my heart.

“Many students in our Teaching Assistant certificate program have expressed interest in working with students with special needs,” said Teacher Preparation Department Chairperson Dawn Kolakoski. “This new curriculum allows those students to focus their studies on coursework that will prepare them to work directly with the developmentally disabled.”

The program kicks off this fall at HVCC for anyone interested. It'll include eight classes that prepares students to earn the New York State Teaching Assistant Certificate, Level III. Earning this certificate will prepare them for a position as a teaching assistant grade K-12 public schools, as a paraprofessional working in a self-contained special education classroom, as an assistant in a special education center or as a direct support assistant in a group home or facility.

Hudson Valley will be holding another instant admission day this Wednesday on their Troy campus from 8am-6pm, or you can contact their Admissions Department at: (518) 629-7309
