Stunning Pink Moon Appears Tonight in Upstate New York
April is bringing more than just warmer weather to Upstate New York. We will get a beautiful start to the season with the arrival of the full Pink Moon on April 1st.
This full moon reaches peak illumination at 10:12 pm Eastern Time, making it perfectly timed for an evening view right here in the Capital Region and beyond.
Despite its name, the Pink Moon will not actually appear pink. The name comes from a seasonal connection to spring, specifically the blooming of creeping phlox, one of the first bright flowers to appear across the Northeast this time of year.
The Pink Moon is also known as the first full moon of spring, arriving just after the spring equinox. It carries a deeper meaning too, as it is considered the Paschal Moon, which helps determine the date of Easter each year.
For the best view in Upstate New York, head outside around sunset and look toward the eastern horizon. As the moon rises, it may appear larger and take on a warm golden or orange glow, creating a perfect springtime scene.
With trees beginning to bud and flowers starting to bloom, the Pink Moon is a reminder that winter is finally behind us. If skies stay clear, April 1st could offer a simple but stunning way to welcome the new season right from your own backyard.
