Oh Canada! Finally The Borders Will Reopen in Early July

The Canadian United States border has been closed for well over a year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Both countries have been trying to find a way to reopen and now it seems that Canada has given a reopen date but with some restrictions.

According to WKBW.com, United States citizens that are fully vaccinated will be allowed to enter Canada at all the borders with fewer restrictions beginning Monday, July 5th. Those that wish to cross the border must show proof of vaccination along with testing before crossing and when crossing into Canada. If you are not fully vaccinated, you will not be able to cross over and travel restrictions remain in place.

There will no longer be a requirement for permanent residents, Canadians, and foreign nationals to self-isolate for two weeks when they return if they got the second COVID-19 shot, or the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

The Canadian border has been closed for sixteen months since March 21st, 2020. Many residents who have dual citizenship were forced to stay in whichever country they were in. They have been in limbo on whether they can go back to their home country for over a year now. Finally, there is a glimmer of hope to open the border on July 5th.

I have a lot of friends who have dual citizenship in both Canada and the United States. It has been difficult for them not knowing when they can return to their respective countries. At least this announcement will help them be able to plan to reenter their countries.
