New York's Revolution

While all 13 colonies played their part in the war for independence, New York's contributions to our nation's, and people's independence cannot be understated. The pivotal Battle of Saratoga took place just outside of Saratoga Springs, and was a key turning point in the war.

The Declaration of Independence

Once we gained independence from the British, however, our work was not yet done. Revolution became a key theme of America's national identify, fighting for equal rights for all, and New York played a major part in those revolutions as well.

Revolutionary New York

It's those later revolutions that the New York State Museum wants to highlight in their new exhibit: "Revolutionary New York". The exhibit will feature artifacts, images, hands-on and multimedia components, and different perspectives that show how New York fared during the Revolutionary War and beyond.

From battles waged against the Redcoats to the Women’s Suffrage Movement at Seneca Falls and the Stonewall Uprising in 1969, New York has played a massive part in Americas revolutions, and they want to show you that.

The exhibit officially opens on July 1st, 2026 and will remain open until July 8th, 2029.
