Each summer, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation hires about 60 seasonal staff to help run week-long conservation camps for kids ages 11-17. This isn’t your typical summer job, you’ll be working at one of four beautiful camp locations:

  • Camp Colby (Saranac Lake)
  • Camp DeBruce (Livingston Manor)
  • Camp Pack Forest (Warrensburg)
  • Camp Rushford (Caneadea)

Available Positions:
Counselors – Guide campers through exciting outdoor adventures
Cooks – Keep everyone fueled for fun
Camp Aides 1 & 2 – Help keep camp running smoothly

Depending on the role, pay ranges from $6,300 to $10,300 for the season, and all positions include room and board from June to mid-August so you can focus on the experience, not expenses. Plus, they have updated qualifications to allow even more people to apply with no prior camper experience required.

Interested? Learn more on the website, and send your cover letter, resume, and unofficial transcript to campemploy@dec.ny.gov to apply. Don’t miss out on the chance to make unforgettable memories and a real impact this summer.

Run Down But Not Forgotten-Abandoned Frontier Town in the Adirondacks

One of my favorite memories is going to Frontier Town in the Adirondacks. We always loved it when we would hop on the train and robbers would come alongside on horseback and try to take over. The rodeo was also a lot of fun. We made some great memories at Frontier Town. It has sat abandoned since 1998 but some of the attractions, yet overgrown, are still standing. Thanks to Antiquity Echoes' amazing video you can see what once was Frontier Town.
