I spent the last few decades working for a Division I athletic department. Each year, one of the compliance officers comes around and makes you sign like twenty times that you won't cheat and you won't gamble...and that includes all fantasy sports that result in any payout or award. I stopped paying attention to betting lines, NCAA pools and never even thought about getting involved in fantasy football.

As my son Andrew got older, he became more and more interested in fantasy football. He is in college and is in two or three leagues. A group of friends are involved in a league and have been basically taunting me to get in, so this year, I did. We let the listeners of "The Drive with Charlie & Dan" come up with the name and they did, "The Backseat Drivers."

Dan Bahl is a fantasy football whiz. Talking strategy with him helps. I don't know if it could really help me but after going through my first draft, I could really see afterward how it would help others. For the first 10 minutes of the draft tonight, I wasn't quite sure what was happening. After that, I began to get the hang of it not to totally embarrass myself.

Doug, the President of the league, took pity on me and fielded my questions, probably to make sure that the draft didn't slow down when it came my way. I am sort of impressed just getting through my first fantasy football draft. It was more fun than I thought it would be and I definitely picked up strategies for the future.

It was cool and now I understand why so many people enjoy it. I may despise it by week 3 but for now, I'm in! Stay tuned to "The Drive with Charlie & Dan" from 3p to 7p. My team will be an open book and will be open to all suggestions, even folding the tent and walking away to cut my losses!

Because the regulation of exotic animals is left to states, some organizations, including The Humane Society of the United States, advocate for federal, standardized legislation that would ban owning large cats, bears, primates, and large poisonous snakes as pets.
