1 in a Million Find Could Have Been Dinner in Saratoga County

I'm no expert on crustaceans, but I've seen (and eaten) enough lobsters in my lifetime to know that this rare gem should not have been in the tank and for sale at a local seafood department.

According to a report, a rare blue lobster that wildlife experts believe is a one-in-two-million find was mistakenly on sale at the seafood department of Market 32 in Clifton Park. Somehow, workers in the seafood department overlooked the bright blue lobby, but thankfully, some attentive young men spotted it!

Local Family Saves Rare Blue Lobster

As reported by News 10 ABC, Danielle Morales was with her two boys, Parker and Zachary, in Clifton Park waiting for a haircut when they decided to go to the nearby Market 32.

“And the boys always ask to go to the lobster tank,” said Morales, leading to the discovery of the super rare blue lobster, according to the source.

How Rare Was It?

According to the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine, lobsters' blue color comes from a "genetic defect that causes them to make excessive amounts of the protein that creates the color."

There's approximately a one-in-two-million chance of finding a blue lobster, and even rarer to find one in an actual grocery store.  Although online sources say some restaurants have put them on menus before, fetching as much as $500 if you want to make it dinner.

Don't Worry, Nobody's Eating It!

Thankfully, the Parker family members are members of Via Aquarium in Rotterdam, and the family wasn't interested in making him dinner.  Danielle reached out and sent them a photo on social media. According to the report, staff members at Via rescued the lobster that the boys named "Bandit," and they expect it to be displayed in the first week of October.
