We tend to be more giving around the holiday season. We're all so blessed to have family, friends, gifts, and some aren't so fortunate. One local organization is doing their part to make sure no kid is forgotten this year.

Things of My Very Own is a local organization based in Schenectady. The basis for the organization started when the founder saw that there are children who may not have the necessities that our children have and may take for granted.

Each year, Things of My Very Own puts together Christmas wish tags for local children who are in need. They place these tags all over the Capital Region at local businesses in hopes that people will take them and help them out. Sadly, the deadline for the tags has passed but they are still accepting donations.

The biggest issue with a huge push in donations around the holiday season is that these organizations can be forgotten about the rest of the year. If you missed the opportunity to get a Christmas wish tag from this organization, find a way to help and donate a bit of time and/or money year-round to something close to your heart. A new year and a new decade is a good time to start.

I had a chance to sit down with the owner and founder for my Capital Region Sunday segment. Please listen and realize that these organizations need your help all year long.
