After 50 Years Beloved Albany County Deli & Market Closing
LePage’s Market, a family-run staple in Cohoes, will close its doors at the end of the year after more than 50 years in business. The market and deli, located on North Mohawk Street, has been part of the community since Anthony and Sandra LePage first opened it in 1974.
For decades, the LePages spent long days behind the counter, slicing deli meats, stocking drinks, and selling countless lottery tickets. Now, they say it is time to step back.
Anthony explained that the decision comes after years of hard work and sacrifice. He said they want to focus on spending more time with family and enjoying life outside the store.
According to News 10 ABC, Anthony described the closure as both sad and rewarding. He reflected on the many hours devoted to keeping the business running, but said he is grateful for the customers who became part of their daily routine.
In a recent social media message, the couple thanked the community for its support, noting that the friendships made over the years have been one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
LePage’s Market is also remembered as the place where a lucky customer hit it big. In March 2019, a $1 million Powerball ticket was sold there. The winner, Steven Elinski, claimed his prize the following month, adding to the market’s history of memorable moments.
The property will not sit empty for long. Plans are underway for Stewart’s Shops to build a new 4,500 square foot store on the site in 2026. A public meeting to review the proposal is scheduled for October 6 at Cohoes City Hall.
