Downtown Schenectady Building More Luxury Apartments
Everyone who has been in Schenectady recently knows the amount of new construction that is being built. There are also new apartment complexes, restaurants, and other venues that have been constructed in the past few years. Now another mixed-use building will be built on a busy corner downtown.
Where Is This Mixed-Use Building Located?
The vacant piece of land on the corner of Erie Blvd and State Street in downtown Schenectady will be the location for the mixed-use building. This was where The Nicholaus building once was. The building was actually going to be used for new apartments but in 2017 the city declared an emergency and that it could collapse and was unsafe. It was torn down.
What Will The New Mixed-Use Building Contain?
The small piece of land will contain a four-story residential building. There will be retail stores on the ground floor. This is a very busy corner in downtown Schenectady. The other floors will contain one-bedroom luxury apartments according to the Times Union.
There will be just six one-bedroom apartments on the first floor with retail space of nineteen hundred square feet. The project states that those businesses will be open from 6 am until 10 pm.
The Chairwoman of the Planning Commission, Mary Moore Wallinger said,
It’ll be really wonderful to have a building on that corner that really fronts both streets and has the kind of architectural character and detail that will enhance the rest of our downtown, and I’m excited to see that they’re addressing the corner and look forward to that helping to bridge the gap across State Street.
